Whoops! It doesn't look like anybody's in the front.

Would you rather view the front history instead?

About

Thank you for choosing Covertan!

This is a passion project made possible by the following:

  • Ash of Boardwalk System (Trixie Cabi) as sole programmer
  • Mae as logo designer
  • confetti.js (dependency): spices up member birthday and anniversary celebration
  • Bootstrap v5.3 (dependency): makes the frontend (what you're looking at) look all pretty
  • Supporters like you! (No, really!)

We do not track your data nor do we advertise nor do we work with corporations that do. This is a heartfelt application made by a system, for systems. We're all in for the health and understanding of plurality, and profit margins were never a factor in the creation of this project.

If you feel that Covertan could benefit from the addition of a general feature, hit us up!

It's never required, and you won't gain anything (except for a warm feeling), but you can support us financially if you are able to and appreciate the work that went into this application.

Members

Recommended for small screens or systems with a large head count.

When enabled, you will not be able to edit, delete, or unpin messages or rename files associated with members that are not currently fronting. This is a protective layer for systems that may need it.

Enable this if you believe your system contains troublemakers that may be interested in tinkering with message data.

Other apps

You have the option of entering your token in an external application. This will allow for easy data syncing between the external application and Covertan. Functionality is only available while your device is connected to the Internet.

All API calls and token storage happen locally to your device. Covertan developers never see your token, and it is only used when you click a button related to that application. That being said, keep it safe. Providing external tokens only adds functionality to Covertan, and will never be required to access the basic functionality of the app.

We will validate your token by asking the application for the name of your system. If they give a response that makes sense, we'll save your token. Once saved, you will be able to make use of Covertan's tools relating to that application.

PluralKit

[Authenticated as SystemName] or [Hmmm... This doesn't seem right.]

Entering a valid PluralKit token will allow for syncing Covertan members to PluralKit, importing PluralKit members into Covertan, and more.

Simply Plural

[Authenticated as SystemName] or [Hmmm... This doesn't seem right.]

Entering a valid Simply Plural token will allow for syncing Covertan members to Simply Plural, importing Simply Plural members into Covertan, and more.

Make sure that the token has read and write permissions set. Do not grant delete permissions. Covertan will read from your system to import member data, and will write to your system to overwrite existing member data. These permissions are not used for anything else.

Data Import/Export

To successfully import PluralKit system data, upload the system.json file that you receive after running the command pk;export. This will clear chat messages.

To successfully import Covertan data, upload the covertan-export-[timestamp].json file that you receive after having clicked "Export data" prior.

A Covertan data export will contain members, groups, front data (including your front history), and every message sent in Chat. Please keep your data safe and do not share with systems that are not yourself.

Danger Zone

If you are encountering issues with your data refusing to persist between sessions, your data/database structure may be outdated or corrupted. Deleting the database is an extreme step, and will result in losing all progress. It will however fix issues related to an incompatible database. This is a nuclear option when all else fails.

It is advised to export your data before deleting the database, so it can be re-imported at a later date. Data imports will work even after the database has been cleared.

You have the option to delete multiple members at a time. Useful if a recent data import has created some botched members. Exercise due dillegence—once a member is deleted, there is no turning back.

You have the option to clear System Chat history and start from scratch. This will delete all messages and files sent in System Chat ever. You can also specifically mass-delete files sent in System Chat if you are concerned about storage (every file sent is stored on your device in the chat database).
